For January I propose a "Super Sicilian" produced by Baron Felice Spitaleri of Muglia.
"Solicchiata” is a full-bodied intense red wine, produced from a Bordeaux blend of 70% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented in large oak vats and aged for 24 months in 225 litre barriques.
The grapes grow on the Etna black volcanic sand soil and on dry stone wall terraces, 800-1000 meters above sea level.
The colour is deep ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose it is intense and aromatic with scents of dark fruit, leather and oak barrel. On the palate it is dry, warm and smooth, well balanced and intense with a very long finish of cherries, plum jam, raisins, exotic spices, vanilla and Mediterranean herbs.
Pair with roast lamb with garlic and rosemary, roast beef, veal and venison. Steak pies and stews cooked in red wine. Gourmet burger and chips.
